Thanks for stopping by (and please be encouraged to do so more often)!

I knew I was a long-shot when I put my name in for the competition. I see by the current totals that every single one of my regular readers has voted for me - all five or so of them. Until this week, a majority of my blogs hits has been from people doing searches on "Google" and "Yahoo" for microbiology information ("What is the purpose of heat-fixing?", "Why does the Gram stain work?", "Are acid-fast bacteria Gram-positive?" and so on...) or information about expired JellO®.

What thrills me most about making the finalist list is the implication that evidently someone thought The Big Room was one of the noteworthy blogs, and the hope that some real portion of the people who find my blog decide to stick around, read, and comment.

Of course, I've still got two and a half weeks to become famous and develop a horde of well-connected fans who will sneak in after the initial vote rush and quietly propel me to the top of the list...what can I say, I may be a bit of a cynic, but I'm an optimistic cynic.

Nonetheless, I'm still mentally prepared to beg outside of scientific conferences...

Hey Sean, just dropping by to share words of encouragement. Blogging isn't suppose to be a competition, it's simply an outlet for your intellectual and creative expression. Just being on the top 20 list is a pretty neat honor already :)
