Microscopy Preview

Intentional food microbiology:
Various yogurt bacteria floating amid milk protein and fat globules

UNintentional food microbiology:
Wet-mount photomicrograph showing mold mycelia and a mass that kind of looks like large spore cases or something

I still don’t feel like I got nearly enough productive stuff done this weekend, but I did manage to do a bit of microscopy – plus demonstrating to myself that I still remember how to do a “Gram stain”. Real Post with explanation and more pictures to follow Real Soon Now…

The Author is (currently) an autodidactic student of Industrial and Environmental microbiology, who is sick of people assuming all microbiology should be medical in nature, and who would really like to be allowed to go to graduate school one of these days now that he's finished his BS in Microbiology (with a bonus AS in Chemistry). He also enjoys exploring the Big Room (the one with the really high blue ceiling and big light that tracks from one side to the other every day) and looking at its contents from unusual mental angles.

  1. Completely unrelated but … did you know that BlackBerry’s Bold 9700 which comes with a 3.2MP camera, will automatically geotag your pictures for you if you want? Geotagging hits mainstream! Woo hoo!

  2. Cool – I noticed that the Google G1 phone that the Minister of Rocktology here has also does the same thing. Now I actually WANT a “smart phone”. Of course, what I want is a Nokia N900, but I can’t afford it. Dagnabbit.

I’m hoping they start announcing “Meego” (formerly Maemo and Moblin) phones soon.
